چکیده

The abrasive wear of nanocrystalline Ni–W alloys with grain sizes of 5–105 nm has been studied using Taber abrasion testing. The wear resistance of the finest grain size specimen is found to be higher than would be predicted based on hardness alone. This deviation from Archard scaling is traced to mechanically-driven structural evolution, consisting of grain growth and grain boundary relaxation, which occurs during wear. Comparison of these observations with previous wear studies suggests that the extent of structural evolution during wear depends on contact stresses and material removal rates. & 2013 Elsevier B.V. Wear behavior of carbon steel electrodeposited by nanocrystalline Ni–W coating

Ni-W coatings, compared to pure nanocrystalline Ni, exhibit higher hardness and wear resistance. In some cases, these coatings are considered as environmental friendly alternatives for hard chromium coating. Till now, most of Ni-W coatings have been produced by direct current electrodeposition from alkaline baths. In this study square pulse current was used for deposition of Ni-W precipitates f...

Sliding wear of nanocrystalline Ni–W: Structural evolution and the apparent breakdown of Archard scaling

Sliding wear of nanocrystalline Ni-W alloys with grain sizes from 3 to 45 nm, a range which spans the transition in deformation mechanisms from intrato intergranular, is studied through pin-on-disk wear testing. The extreme conditions produced during sliding wear are found to result in structural evolution and a deviation from Archard scaling for the finest grain sizes; in the finest nanocrysta...

Hot Nanoindentation of Nanocrystalline Ni-W Alloys

High temperature nanoindentation experiments are conducted to assess the activation enthalpy for deformation of nanocrystalline Ni-W alloys, for grain sizes between 3 and 80 nm. Thermal softening becomes less pronounced at finer grain sizes, and the activation enthalpy has an apparent inflection at a grain size near ~10-20 nm, in the vicinity the Hall-Petch breakdown. This inflection is related...

Electrical and tribological properties of a Ni–18%Ru alloy for contact applications

A study of the microstructure, development of contact resistance during oxidation, and abrasive wear behavior for a Ni–18 at.%Ru alloy is presented in this article. It is shown that the alloy can be solutionized and aged, resulting in a fine lamellar mixture of FCC a-Ni and HCP b-Ru phases. Upon oxidation in air for 400 h, the measured contact resistance of the alloy is two orders of magnitude ...

THE EFFECT OF HEAT TREATMENT ON ABRASIVE WEAR RESISTANCE OF Fe-34Cr-4.5C%WT HARDFACING ALLOY

Abstract: Hardfacing is one of the most useful and economical ways to increase the service life of components subjected to abrasive wear. Iron based hardfacing alloys have long been considered as candidate coatings for wear-resistant applications in industry. In the present work two layer of Fe-34Cr-4.5C%wt hardfacing alloy was deposited on ASTM A36 carbon steel plates by SMAW method. The m...
